The first monument reads "Gen. George Rogers Clark Born O. S. Nov. 9. 1752 Died Feb. 13 1818." Written in white along the bottom it reads "1. b. Lou. Ky. Cave. Hill. Lot. 245. See. P. June. 8. 1936. Graves. Gen. G. R. Clark. Capt. Edm. Clark. Gen. Jona. Clark." In a note attached to the photograph it reads "The grave of George Rogers Clark in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville. General Clark was born in Virginia, in 1752, November 9th (Old Style) or 20th (New Style). He died February 13, 1818, at Locust Grave, where he is buried. In 1869 his remains were reinterred in Cave Hill and the small marble marble marker then erected was replaced in 1936 by one of the granite of the same size and bearing the same inscription: Gen. George Rogers Clark, Born, O. S. Nov. 9, 1752, Died, Feb. 13, 1818."
