Filson Map of Kentucke, 1784, Harvested August 20, 2005 Collection of Historical Maps with a connection to early Kentucky History. Map showing a early map of Kentucky. The Legend in the top left corner reads "This Map of Kentucke, Drawn from actual Observations, is inscribed with the most perfect respect to the Honorable the Congress of the United States of America; and to his Eccelt of George Washington late Commander in Chief of their Army. By their Humble Servant John Filson." A box in the center reads: "While this work shall live this inscription (sp?) remain a Monument of the Gratitude of the Author, to Col. Dan. Boon, Levi Todd, Ja. Harrod, Capt. Chrift (sp?) Greenhap (sp?) In Cowan (sp?) , W. Kennedy Esq. of Kentucke: for the distinguished affiance (sp?), with which they have honored him in its Composition: is a testimony that it has received the Approbation of this whom he justly Esteems the best qualified to Judge of its Merit." At the base of the map it reads "Philad. Engrav'd by Henry D. Pursell by T. Rook for the Author 1784" and in type "This map is a reproduction of an original in the collections of the Filson Club.
