There are two stamps, one at the top center reading "Please Credit F. S. A. "children remain away from school on 'syrupping off' days," Between Campton and Jackson, Kentucky, Photo 0037 (back), September 1940- scanned Back of photograph 0037. Typed on the top edge reads "In the early fall many of the children remain away from school on 'syrupping off' days. Sorghum syrup is boiled down from the cane sap by one of the men from the neighborhood who does this work for different members of the communities taking a share of the syrup for his labor. On the highway between Campton and Jackson, Kentucky September 1940." In pencil it reads in the bottom right corner "Agriculture WPA Photo Collection" and in the center "55551D." There are two stamp prints, with one reading "Please Credit F.S. A. Farm Security Administration Photo: By Marion Post" and the other reading "Please Note: Kindly Return Unused Photos to the Division of Information, Farm Security Administration, Washington, D. C."

They are standing next to large vats of hot and steaming liquid. The girls are in dresses, with three in floral colors and one in a solid color.

Written in pencil in the top left corner reads "Tobacco Curing in barn Tobacco WPA Photo Collection Tour 5" and in the center "76327." There are other marks in different pencil colors that reads "128," "36a," and "5 1/2." In the bottom right corner there is a stamp maker's mark that reads "Copyright Caufield and Shook Inc Louisville, KY. Photograph must not be copied, reproduced or published without written permit."
