A note attached to the photograph reads "A Section of Frozen Niagara in Mammoth Cave. A great stone falls, 50 feet wide and 75 feet high, was discovered in 1923. It is estimated that it took one hundred years to form a single cubic inch of the wall of cave onyx. At that rate, Frozen Niagara may be several million years old. a natural gateway leading off from the right descends underneath and behind the falls into the Drapery Room. Here the entire ceiling is a succession of folds like a massive curtain gathered in a great circle. The vast room which houses Frozen niagara is draped with curtains, many of which resemble Kentucky tobacco leaves suspended from the ceiling."

In a note attached to the photograph it reads, "Crystal Lake in the Frozen Niagara Section of Mammoth Cave. As seen from the bridge 60 feet above the water, this green pool lying at the bottom of a stone garden decorated with crystal clear stalactites is one of the most captivating sights remembered by the visitor. Of unusual interest is September Morn, a white stalactite formed in the shape of a bathing beauty. The statue is 35 inches long and about 5 inches in diameter. September Morn is noted for her rapid change in costume. With ordinary lighting she has on her robe, but under a light placed behind the stalactite, she is dressed for bathing. Perhaps the most unusual stalactite is shown in the right center of the picture. This is a crystal clear white stem of onyx, with a diameter about the size of a pencil and hanging suspended from the ceiling for a length of fully 8 feet. It is striking testimony to the lack of any disturbances or shook of any kind in this high dome. Crystal Lake is 270 feet beneath the surface. The water is from 3 to 38 feet deep. From the top of Echo Dome above the lake to the bottom of the pit beside the Crystal Lake is a distance of 162 feet. A dry pit 68 feet below Crystal Lake is separated by a large stalagmite called Plymouth Rock, which forms a natural dam for the water of Crystal Lake."
